House mouse
Also known as Mus musculus, the house mouse is the most commonly present mouse in our house. The house mouse is usually grey-brown or yellow-brown in colour and it can reach up to a maximum head to body length of about 3 to 3.5 inches. The tails of these house mice are approximately 2.75 to 3 inches in length. The bellies of the house mice are generally paler and lighter in colour with the heads that are smaller in size and large, naked ears. The house mouse is found predominantly in all of the United States of America as well as the South of Canada.
Harvest mouse
The scientific name of the harvest mice is Reithrodontomys and their characteristic feature is the presence of a very long and narrow tail. The living habit of the harvest mice is nocturnal in nature.
Salt harvest mouse
The salt harvest mice are also called Reithrodontomys raviventris and their colour is usually dark or blackish or orange-brown in the sides while their bellies are a mix of white orange colour. The salt harvest mice have a head to body length of about 2 to 2.75 inches and the tails are approximately 3 to 3.25 inches in length. The characteristic feature of the salt harvest mice is that their tails are longer than the total length of the body combined. These mice are predominantly found in the areas of San Francisco of California and they are placed under the category of endangered species.
Western harvest mouse

Fulvous harvest mouse

The head to body length of the fulvous harvest mice is generally around 2 to 2.5 inches and the tails of these mice are approximately 3 to 3.9 inches length. The characteristic feature of the fulvous harvest mouse is that the tail of these mice is longer than the body along with being narrow and bicoloured. The fulvous harvest mice are predominantly inhabiting the areas of Missouri, Louisiana, Arizona and Mexico.
Eastern harvest mouse
The scientific name of the eastern harvest mouse is Reithrodontomys humulis and their backs are generally dark brown in colour with shades of red with pale coloured sides. The bellies of these eastern harvest mice are greyish white in colour with blackish coloured ears. The head to body length of the eastern harvest mice is usually about 2 to 2.5 inches and the tails of these mice are about 1.5 to 1.75 inches in length and they are shorter than the length of the whole body. The most commonly inhabited areas of the eastern harvest mice are south of Dakota, southeast of Montana, Texas, Arizona and Mexico.
Northern Pygmy mouse
Northern Pygmy mice have the scientific name of Baiomys taylori with the back that is coloured in dark grey or brown with sides grey in colour. The tails of the northern Pygmy mice are about 1.5 to 1.75 inches in length and they are usually shorter than the body and generally bicoloured. Deer mice

American deer mouse
Also known as Peromyscus maniculatus, the American deer mice are either dark brown, grey-brown or orange-brown in colour with its sides pale colour. The head to body length of the American deer mouse is about 2.75 to 3.5 inches and its tail is shorter or of the same length as the body and it is approximately 2.75 to 3.25 inches in length. The belly of the American deer mouse is a mix of both white and grey colours. This category of mice is predominantly found in the areas of southeast America such as Texas, Montana and western regions of Virginia.
White-footed mouse
The science name of the white-footed mouse is Peromyscus leucopus and its back is the colour ranging from dark brown to orange-brown on the sides and its belly is white with orange hair in the ears. The tail of the white-footed mouse is about 3 inches in length and is a little smaller than the length of the body which is narrow and bicoloured. The head to body length of the white-footed mice is approximately 3 to 3.5 inches. The areas where the white-footed mice are mainly located include the south of Canada and the central as well as southeast parts of the United States.
